Supermen of Malegaon is a Hindi documentary written as well as directed by Faiza Ahmad Khan. The film released on 29th June in the year 2012 in theatres. Initially, Supermen of Malegaon was intended to be a documentary made for one particular Singapore television channel and was not meant to be released in the form of a movie.

The film is contemplative, tragic and funny at times but it should also be noted that it is always engaging and warm. The film consists of approaches and schemes that are inspirationally ingenious, purely hysterical and simply bizarre. The film also allows an individual to discover the city of Malegaon and the microcosm that reflects and embodies the complications of a modern and small town in India. The film brings forward the point that in most of the small and modern cities of India there are traditional and modern people living together and extreme wealth and extreme poverty live in the cities like neighbors.

Plot of the Film

The plot of the film is basically an assimilation of the passion that exists among the citizens of Malegaon for films. This documentary can be taken as a journey envisaging the film making process practiced in Malegaon. The shooting of the entire movie was carried out in Malegaon itself and it took about seven months in the year 2008. The film gained positive reviews from some of the most eminent film critics like Gaurav Malani, Blessy Chettiar and Preeti Arora.

Awards and Accolades

The film managed to grab many main awards such as the Best Documentary Jury Award offered by Asiatic Film Mediale in Rome, the Kara Film Festival in Pakistan conferred the Best Documentary Jury Award, Best Debut Film by Film South Asia in Nepal, Best Documentary, Director and Editing offered by the Asian Festival of First Films in Singapore, Best Editing for the movie from the Asian TV Awards in Singapore, Audience Choice Award for Documentary at Indian Film Festival held at Los Angeles. It also managed to get the Golden Camera Award for Best Documentary at US International Film and Video Festival, the prestigious Gold Awards for Best Documentary and Editing and Silver Award for Sound Design at Indian Documentary Producers Association, Best Documentary at Bollywood and Beyond at Stuttgart, Youth Choice Award at the Vesoul Asian Film Festival and also received a Special Mention at the Best Film Festival in Romania.
